"I didn't set out to make a jacket." Born from a passion for fabric, mù_'s first jacket.

"I didn't set out to make a jacket."

That was the first thing Kimura said when asked about the brand's first jacket.

He wanted to create a light outerwear piece using the TC material with Nido Bio-processing, which is also used for the brand's staple EASY TROUSERS and POSTMAN BAG.

The starting point was always the fabric, and by pursuing a design that would make the most of that fabric, they eventually arrived at this final form.

It looks different depending on the wearer.

As was the case with the EASY TROUSERS, this is something Kimura is particular about in order to make the most of this fabric.
At first glance, it's a jacket.
But it's by no means stiff. It has a slightly relaxed, casual feel.

While looking neat, it also appears somewhat dressed down.
That freedom allows it to blend into various styles.

- The brand's first jacket

Kimura: I didn't want to make a jacket.

It started with wanting to make an outerwear piece that could be worn lightly, using the same fabric as the EASY TROUSERS and POSTMAN BAG.

When that happened, I thought it would be great if it could be paired with the EASY TROUSERS as a set-up.
In order to make the most of the fabric's characteristics, I aimed for something that combined both a casual and elegant feel, and that's how this design came about.

Since the item name includes "jacket," it is indeed a jacket, but for me, it feels more like a light outerwear piece with lapels.

- What are the characteristics of this fabric again?

Kimura: I really love this fabric.

To vintage clothing enthusiasts, it appears elegant, yet to those who wear formal attire, it looks relaxed.
The same item looks different depending on the viewer. I believe it's such a material.

By applying a processing that removes stiffness from durable, firm TC material, we preserve the fabric's inherent characteristics while giving it a soft, elegant drape amidst a casual appearance.

It's a fabric that symbolizes our brand.

- What did you do to make the most of that fabric?

Kimura: For the EASY TROUSERS, we brought out both the casualness and elegance of this fabric by combining the comfort of easy pants with the sophistication of slacks.

We applied the same concept to this jacket, expressing both aspects by incorporating tailored elements into a casual construction.

- What exactly do you mean by "casual construction"?

Kimura: The sleeves use the felled seams found in denim jackets and workwear, and the patch pockets have gussets at the sides, making them float from the body.
The back hem is rounded like a work shirt.
However, by adding side vents there, jacket elements are also mixed in.

Since we commissioned a casual wear factory, the pressing and sewing specifications result in a soft finish that isn't overly neat.

- What was the reason for commissioning a casual wear factory?

Kimura: Even among the factories we've worked with for a long time, each has its own area of expertise.

If it were made at a tailored factory, it would inevitably look too clean.
I believed that the sewing specifications and pressing methods of a factory specializing in casual wear were more suitable for the atmosphere this item should have.
By removing the stitching to create a soft fullness, we achieved a finish that retains the softness of a blouson.

- So, it's more like a blouson in terms of construction?

Kimura: Yes, that's right.
Only the lapels and chest pocket are jacket elements; everything else is pretty much taken from blousons or shirts.
If it didn't have lapels, it would be a blouson, but just having lapels makes it look like a jacket.

So, for me, it feels more like a blouson with lapels.

- Are the lapels a key point?

Kimura: Yes, they are.
I personally prefer casual clothes.

But just by wearing a tailored jacket, people tell me I look elegant today.
It made me realize how much a small change can alter one's impression.

Lapels are like that; just having them makes you look elegant.
That's why I decided to add lapels to this outerwear.

- What about the sizing?

Kimura: The size itself isn't extremely oversized.

It looks neat but also has a relaxed, dressed-down feel.
That's what I consider an elegant oversized fit for adults.

Details like the dropped raglan shoulders, the depth of the placket, and the fullness created by removing the stitching all contribute to that relaxed feel.

- It sounds like it can be styled in many ways.

Kimura: Yes, that's right.
When I wear tailored jackets, I often add a playful touch with a pin badge.
But I didn't want to poke holes in a jacket I liked, so I included a flower hole.

It looks clean because it's a jacket, but when paired with our pants, both have a relaxed feel, so items with different elements naturally blend together.

I designed it with that in mind, not only for set-ups but also for pairing with cargo pants and denim.
